Nutrition Program
  • Our dedicated kitchen staff work to ensure that our nutrition programs are serving enjoyable, high-quality meals and snacks for 60 and better customers and the community as a whole.
  • We continue to provide drive thru pickup options, as well as County bus delivery for Congregate Meals while The Community Café is closed.
  • Meals on Wheels continues to be delivered, as always.

New Programming – Online and Telephone Access
  • Mather – the industry leader in senior living and research, dedicated to creating Ways to Age WellSM – is graciously providing support to ASI to link our community to their “Aging Well” resources.
  • Professional Caregiver, Family Caregiver, and other up-to-date information is available. You can look through these offerings detailed on our Home page and Programs page.
  • There are download printable resources, as well as a links to sign up to enjoy a bevy of virtual (online or phone) fun, educational, and social opportunities. No need to register in advance.
  • Mather has partnered with the esteemed arts and education organization, the Chautauqua Institution, and you can register to participate on Mather’s website for access to lectures, seminars, topical discussions, world class performances, and much more. You can browse and register through Mather’s website.​

The Pagosa Medical Center is distributing COVID-19 vaccine.

VITA TAX PREPARATION 2021
Due to COVID-19, VITA will not be coming to Pagosa Springs to prepare federal and state income tax returns this year.  VITA will be preparing 2020 tax returns at no charge as part of the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in Durango.  Please register on their website at:  DurangoVITA.org.  The gross income limit this tax season is $54,000. 


FALL PREVENTION – “A MATTER OF BALANCE”
 

A Matter of Balance is an award winning falls prevention program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase the activity levels of older adults who have concerns about falls.  The classes help participants to:  View falls and fear of falling as controllable*Set realistic goals for increasing activity*Change their environment to reduce fall risk factors*Promote exercise to increase strength and balance.  You can benefit from the classes if:  You are concerned about falls*Have sustained a fall in the past*You restrict activities because of concerns about falling*You are interested in improving flexibility, balance, and strength*You are age 60 or older, ambulatory, and able to problem solve.

The Matter of Balance program lasts eight weeks. This class has been postponed until further notice due to the coronaviris (Covid-19). Each class is from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Snacks will be provided.  Class size is limited.  Please call 970-264-2167 for more information or to register.  We do not charge for the classes, but do request a suggested donation.



AARP SMART DRIVER COURSE
 
The AARP Smart Driver course, offered by AARP Driver Safety, is the nation’s first and largest refresher course designed specifically for drivers age 50 and older.  For more than 35 years, the course has taught 16 million drivers proven safety strategies so they can continue driving safely for as long as possible.

WHY TAKE THE COURSE?
Over nine in ten course participants report changing at least one key driving behavior for the better as a result what they learned in the course and over eight in ten participants felt that information they learned in the course has prevented them from being in a crash.  Plus, you may be eligible to receive an insurance discount upon completing the course, so consult your insurance agent for details!

AARP membership is not required to take the course.  
The classroom course costs only $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers.
